Unveiling the future of food innovation

Momentum is building for New Zealand’s premier food and beverage manufacturing and logistics trade event, says an excited Deb Haimes.

Foodtech Packtech – held at the Auckland Showgrounds from September 2-4, is held in conjunction with the feature-packed Materials Handling and Logistics Expo.

“With the latest in packaging, food processing equipment, ingredients, food safety and sustainability this event is likely to be a game-changer for businesses keen to keep their competitive advantage,” says Haimes, XPO Exhibition’s event manager for Foodtech Packtech.

She says that more than 230 local and international exhibitors are confirmed, with a significant number of new faces set to take their place alongside well-known regulars. Industry leaders like TNA, Beckhoff, Thermaflo and Proquip are confirmed and will unveil their latest innovations. Cutting-edge products, technology and advances will complement invaluable training and development opportunities.

“Expect to see everything from meat processing equipment to flexible packaging and precision weighing tools,” says Haimes. “This year’s new feature, Sustainability Spotlight, is expected to be a highlight. It showcases the industry’s ever-evolving sustainability; and has a fun factor with awards judged both by industry experts and people’s choice.”

The popular Business Growth Hub is back, offering dedicated resources for accelerating growth in the food and packaging technology sectors. The hub is supported by key industry organisations such as The Food Innovation Network, Ministry for Primary Industries, New Zealand Food Safety, The Packaging Forum, Australasian Institute of Packaging and the APPMA.

“Fostering learning and collaboration is a primary aim. Three days of soon-to-be-announced seminars will cover all show categories, providing an immersive platform for attendees to keep up with advancements and collaborate on future industry solutions.”

The Australasian Institute of Packaging (AIP), in partnership with Foodtech Packtech, will host a series of free packaging sessions, structured as panel discussions, covering a broad range of critical topics, including packaging targets, waste directives, extended producer responsibility, eco-modulation, best-practice sustainable packaging designs, and strategies for incorporating recycled content into packaging.

“Discussions will also delve into the future of soft plastics and flexible packaging, how to embed the ‘10 sustainable packaging design principles’ into business operations; the role of packaging in minimising food loss and waste; the future of fibre and renewable materials, and the Reynolds Group role of the Australasian Recycling Labelling programme across ANZ, among many others.”

Reynolds Group is excited to return to Foodtech Packtech with stand L16 packed with new products and valuable industry resources.

“In a New Zealand first, we’re unveiling the Graphic Solid Inks black and white inkjet system – a game changer for carton coding and in-line graphics printing.

“Following its standout debut at APPEX in 2024, we will be hosting the Retailer Engagement Hub. Be sure to watch this space for details to come.”

Speakers will include a number of New Zealand winners from the annual Australasian Packaging Innovation & Design (PIDA) Awards, as well as recipients of the prestigious global WorldStar Packaging Awards.

“The event was aimed at all levels of business, from startups to multinationals, and the best opportunity for everyone involved in the New Zealand sector to collaborate, learn and plan for growth. And for those who simply like the machines, there is more automation and robotics on display than ever before. It’s an event not to be missed,” says Haimes of the free-to-industry event. Registration is now open online.
