The New Zealand Institute of Food Science & Technology (NZIFST) is seeking sponsors for its fourth instalment of the NZIFST/CREST Student Product Development Challenge.

The competition gives teams of senior secondary school students the experience of exploring creative solutions to practical, food science and technology problems and questions, working with food industry mentors, in the development of an innovative new food product.

As well as NZIFST and CREST, the Challenge is supported by Futureintech (IPENZ), Massey University, University of Otago, Lincoln University, the various food-related Crown Research Institutes and the wider food industry.

CREST is the Royal Society of New Zealand’s awards scheme designed to encourage students to be innovative, creative, and to problem solve in science and technology. CREST projects can also help provide the evidence for NCEA assessment and can be used as entries to regional science and technology fairs and other such competitions.

Participants in the Student Product Development Challenge can achieve the prestigious Team Silver CREST awards on completion of their projects and meeting CREST critieria. Since CREST is aligned with NCEA, many of the students are also able to achieve Technology credits for their Challenge work.

NZIFST is seeking sponsorships for of $500 +GST for each team. This year 22 teams from 12 schools are participating.

Benefits to sponsors include:

  • Show support for NZIFST's careers promotion activities.
  • Opportunity to raise your company's profile with future employees.
  • Opportunity to raise the profile of the food industry, and science, technology and engineering careers in the food industry, within the school community (you will be invited to present the cheque to the team).
  • Opportunity to increase your profile within the FST community.
