FOSTERING THE FUTURE: A Q+A WITH LINCOLN UNIVERSITY FOOD SCIENCE MAJOR, LAURYN HIPPOLITE

HS: Why did you choose to study a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Food Science and how far into your studies are you?

LH: I am very interested in food and nutrition, in particular sports nutrition. I loved biology and chemistry in high school and thought it would be a very interesting and hands-on field of work to get into. I am halfway through my three-year degree.

What are your long-term career aspirations?

At this point I am not too sure in terms of career, but I am enjoying many aspects of my degree and I am particularly interested in the field of nutrition. Food Science is fairly broad, and I may do further study after my bachelor’s degree to go into a narrower field of work.

What is something you’re looking forward to learning more about in your field?

I am looking forward to learning more about nutrition and the aspects included in the more food-science focused papers that will be included in my third year.

Have there been any challenges you have had to overcome to get to where you are now?

I studied psychology in America for a year and when I came back, I decided to change to Food Science. None of my previous credits crossed over so I had to restart my study. However, I am thoroughly enjoying Food Science therefore I am happy with my decision to switch degrees!
