Design Awards honour best of plastics industry

This year’s winners of the 2012 Plastics Industry Biennial Design Awards were announced at a dinner held at the Ellerslie Convention Centre in Auckland early this month.

The New Zealand Plastics Industry has a turnover of over $4 billion dollars (bigger than the wine, aquaculture and boating industries combined) from 400 enterprises employing over 6000 people. The industry exports, either directly or indirectly, over $2 billion.

For the first time in the history of the Plastics New Zealand Design Awards the judges were unable to agree on one overall Supreme winner. This year’s Supreme Award was presented as a Joint Supreme Award to Adept Ltd and Aquaduct New Zealand Ltd.

Adept Ltd were Joint Supreme Winners with their STAR Board – Support for Trans-radial Angiography & Revascularisation, a sophisticated piece of medical equipment.

Aquaduct New Zealand Ltd were Joint Supreme winners with their Aquaduct Innovative System.

Product Category Gold Award winners on the night included Viscount Plastics Ltd for their SmartPail in the Food & Beverages Category, Premier Plastics Ltd for their Tomato Clip in the Primary Category, Adept Ltd for their STAR Board – Support for Trans-radial Angiography & Revascularisation in the Industrial Category. ES Plastics Ltd for their Acuflo Water Meter Manifold in the Building Category and Axiam Plastics Ltd for their Youmans Capsule in the Consumer Products category. Silver was the highest award in the Personal Care Category which was presented to LinkPlas Ltd for their Enzo Holistic Hair Therapy 150ml and 300ml.

Process Category Gold Award winners on the night included: Viscount Plastics Ltd for their SmartPail in the Injection Moulding Category, Talbot Technologies for the Trimble Geoexplorer 6000 Series in the Co-Moulding Injection Moulding Category. ES Plastics Ltd was awarded Gold in the Blowmoulding category for the Mussel Float and Aquaduct New Zealand Ltd Gold for their Aquaduct Innovative System in the Extrusion Category. Adept Ltd for their STAR Board – Support for Trans-radial Angiography & Revascularisation in the fabrication Category. The highest awards presented in the Rotational Moulding Category was a Silver to Alto Packaging Ltd for the MAPwrap Overwrap Trays and a Silver in the Rotational Moulding Category went to Mouldings Unlimited for the SAS Wheelie Bin.

Other Category Gold Award winners on the night included Waipak Ltd for their Sanmate/Etika Aseptic Pet Milk in the Export Category and to Talbot Technologies for the Trimble Geoexplorer 6000 Series in the Toolmaking Category.
