This year's Horticulture New Zealand Conference is challenging growers and industry supporters to think differently.

"It's all about growing your business through difficult times," says communications manager Leigh Catley.

"We want to look at what it takes for grower businesses to survive and thrive, even when business conditions like the high exchange rate and rising compliance costs make that harder to do than ever."

This year's conference theme is ‘New Thinking’ and topics covered in the two-day conference will consider the value of science, innovation and visionary thinking in building and maintaining good businesses.

"This theme will give our sponsors and exhibitors a real incentive to bring along their new products and ideas, so that our 500 delegates get up-to-the-minute info about industry developments.

"About half of our delegates are growers, most of them high level influencers in their businesses."

The conference is in Wellington on July 30-31.

"This is the first time the HortNZ conference has been in Wellington. This makes it easier for growers and industry suppliers from the South Island to get there," Leigh says.

"There is no other venue suitable for our conference in the South Island, at this stage."
