Two of Wellington’s most popular breweries have continued their meteoric rise by cleaning up the 2015 Society of Beer Advocates (SOBA) Awards held last month.

Designed to recognise, reward and encourage those who are providing excellent products and services to the beer community and industry, the awards are voted on by the SOBA membership.
In 2014 Wellington’s Garage Project was named best brewery, while Upper Hutt’s Panhead Brewery won the coveted best beer award for their IPA The Vandal.
This year the two breweries have continued their dominance with Garage Project again named New Zealand’s best brewery and Panhead awarded best beer for their Supercharger APA.
Other winners included bars Brothers Beer, Good George, Hashigo Zake, and The Freehouse, while several restaurants with exceptional beer lists were also recognised.
SOBA president David Wood says it was great to award almost double the number of awards this year, compared to last.

“The SOBA Awards are voted on by our members, who are some of the most clued up beer drinkers in the country. To be voted by them to receive an award means you’re doing a lot of things right.”
